Job Title:               Education Officer

Reports to:           ECD Program Manager

Job Location:       Berbera, Somaliland

Contract Type:     (Fixed term)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking Education Officer. The Education Officer will focus on the academic side of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that the learning outcomes of the program are met. The role involves direct supervision and support to teachers to better improve their teaching capacity.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Organise and lead formative, summative, and continuous learning and development assessment of children.

Analyse and disseminate findings from the education assessment to all stakeholders.

Ensure that clear learning objectives are set and progress milestones and outcomes are delivered.

Provide curriculum support, professional learning, and on-site support to teachers. Research on appropriate and relevant learning materials for teachers.

Ensure that ECE centres are following the approved curriculum.

Undertake scheduled and surprise monitoring visits to ECE centres to see play based teaching is adhered to.

Participate in the recruitment and screening of teachers.

Input teacher observation data into the ECE Information Management System.

Develop, coordinate and manage a comprehensive teacher training workshop to inspire

teachers and disseminate best practices in teaching and learning.

Facilitate the smooth transition of children from ECE to formal schooling. Create ECE learning library/resources for the Pharo Education team.

Closely work with stakeholders and seek and seize media opportunities for the advancement of

ECE in Somaliland.

Any other duties assigned by the line manager.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Graduate in social science, social work and or other relevant disciplines.

Demonstrated 3 years of overall experience and a minimum of 1-year specific experience in

managing an education project at the same level. Experience in implementing best practices.

Good understanding of education concepts and issues in the development context. Strong interpersonal & team-building skills and excellence as a team player.

Fluency in written and spoken English.

Ability to develop and maintain productive, effective working relationships.

Advanced organisational skills including the ability to manage numerous tasks concurrently, take

initiatives, establish priorities, and work around tight or competing deadlines.

In-hand experience of using Microsoft Office (MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) Staff management will be an added advantage.
