Position Title: Gender Intern

Number of positions: One(1)

Reporting: FSL Program Manager

Duty Station: Eyl, Somalia

Contract Duration: 6 Months

Summary of Position

Under the guidance and supervision of the program manager, the gender intern will work in close collaboration with program team in providing support in gender sensitive programing and carrying out assessments and data collection. Gather and analyse data from project locations and assist with identification and analysis of the data. Assist and contribute ideas to discussions on issues related to gender, diversity and inclusion. Attend meetings, prepare, and disseminate notes, summaries and reports in a timely manner.

Purpose.

The gender intern will support gender integration into the programing and ensure gender equality and social inclusion. She will be supporting project integration in gender issues and will be a focal person. She will ensure reporting on project deliverables and gender.

Engagement:

The Gender intern will closely engage with project team members, community structures including beneficiary communities and will ensure gender integration into the program.

Delivery.

The gender intern will support gender assessments and data collection on gender across project target villages and will ensure inclusive policies for all including of the women, poor and under privileged. The gender intern will be engaging project beneficiaries in gender related data collection and management.

Essential job duties.

Participate and conduct gender equality and social inclusion assessments from project target villages.

Collect information from project beneficiaries and other community members and submit detailed report about activities and findings.

Conduct gender-mainstreaming training across project locations to project beneficiaries.

Promote knowledge sharing, documentation and dissemination of good practices on gender equality, women’s empowerment and rights, motivate, and engage peers to share ideas and engage with the gender Agenda.

Support project staff to collect various information pertaining to the project activities.

With the support of the gender consultant and project teams, build and promote internal capabilities and collaboration in mainstreaming gender into programming.

Facilitate information sharing of gender integration into the project.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Anthropology, Gender and Development Studies or other Social Sciences related discipline.

Knowledge of standards and best practice related to Safeguarding, PSEA, GBV and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) commitments.

Experience in beneficiary protection from abuse and exploitation in development and humanitarian contexts and knowledge of international protection frameworks and safeguarding mechanisms.

Required Skills & Competencies

Experience in community participation and consultative-implementation methods. Experience in community engagement and mobilization exercises

Previous knowledge and experience in gender related activities Good facilitation, analytical, planning and writing skills

Willing to extensively travel throughout Eyl project locations
