The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Mogadishu, Somalia.
As Area Manager based in Mogadishu, you are responsible for developing and managing all Welthungerhilfe (WHH) activities in the South Central region. Your goal is to ensure that projects in this area are implemented according to specified directives regarding content, schedule, and budget. Projects must adhere to WHH standards, WHH Somalia's strategy, and donor regulations. You will also ensure the sound management of financial, HR and logistical resources allocated to the projects in your area and are responsible for acquiring sufficient additional funding from public or private sources. Additionally, you have overall responsibility for WHH staff working at the base, including their security, and you represent WHH and the office in the defined project area in close coordination with the Country Director.
You ensure coordination with other actors and ensure WHH's contribution to the coordination meetings, in particular Clusters' meetings
Your responsibilities
Ensure that all projects in the area are implemented according to the country strategy and the rules and standards of donors and WHH
Identify funding opportunities in the area and develop successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies, in close coordination with the Country Office
Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring, logistics, HR, finance administration, etc.)
Ensure that for all projects in the area of responsibility are up to date in terms of planning, reporting, budgeting and quality
Implement and manage a preparedness plan for disasters and its measures on the basis of area specific situation
Base Office management and implementation of WHH policies and the adaption to local conditions
Your profile
A university or college degree in a relevant field
A minimum of 5 years professional experience working in a Senior Management position
Experience in implementing both development and humanitarian actions
Experience in working in cooperation with national partner organizations
Experience with institutional donors, ideally with BMZ, EU, and ECHO
Broad intercultural competence and team collaboration skills
Strong capacities in Security monitoring and management
Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe's project countries
Excellent English and Somali language skills
