Physics Teacher –based in Sheikh, Somaliland

Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate Physics teacher who excels in her/his ability to teach and support students and also takes endless pride to design inspiring and engaging lesson plans and teaching units. Working at Pharo Secondary School, Sheikh requires a genuine commitment to serve as a role model and be an active part of the community.

As a boarding school teacher, teaching life extends well beyond the time spent with students in a classroom. Tutorials, field trips, and ongoing engaging school and community-wide activities also form part of a teacher’s responsibilities.

Role: Physics Teacher

Location: Sheikh, Somaliland

Reporting to: Head Teacher

Contract Type: Fixed Term (One Year)

Key duties and Responsibilities:

Working in close collaboration with the Headmaster, the teacher will be responsible for designing and providing lessons and learning opportunities that are engaging, show a depth of teacher subject

competence and allow students to develop and demonstrate critical subject skills and knowledge.

Regularly  incorporate  computer  technology  into  the  students’  learning  experience  where appropriate.

Monitor and track each student’s development and provide the necessary support to ensure academic excellence and overall development.

Manage student behaviour in the classroom and common areas by enforcing school rules and procedures

Provide student counselling and support by working together with the school leadership and other teachers.

Actively participate and deliver tutorials, co-curricular activities and other activities conducted in a

boarding school environment and as stipulated by the Ministry of Education.

Supporting the recruitment process of new students for the Secondary School as appropriate.

 

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal person should possess at minimum a Bachelor’s in Science/ Bachelor’s in Education Degree in the specific subject teaching areas of either Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology.  A

Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.

A Post Graduate Teaching Diploma in the specific subject of specialisation will be considered an

added advantage.

Have a minimum of Five (5) years of teaching experience in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or

Biology using the A-level syllabus.

Experience working in an internationally based organisation or international school setting will be

considered an added advantage.

Proficient in Word, Excel, Email usage, Google Suite, internet searching and willing to learn new computer skills.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in Somali and fluency in English.

and growth.

Must be of good moral character, honest, trustworthy, and dependable.

Possesses and continually develops a working knowledge of national curriculum programmes and

frameworks.

Ability to assess and record student development, while identifying areas that need attention and

improvement.

Ability to provide a safe, positive learning environment for students.
