SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.

Position title           :     Pharmacy Assistant ( Position)

Reporting to                  :      Pharmacy in Charge

Location                        :      Mogadishu

Position Summary:

The Employee assists with the preparation and distribution of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, and documentation. He/She works within a scope of responsibilities, code of ethics and understanding of the regulatory requirements in the Pharmacy.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Check for expired medications

  2. Notify the doctor when stock is low

  3. Take in and handle out prescriptions

  4. Dispense prescriptions

  5. Use store’s computer systems to enter supplies and stock.

  6. Help in maintaining reasonable dispensary stock levels

  7. Receive and/ or unload incoming goods coming in the pharmacy

  8. Deliver pharmaceuticals goods to sites within a pharmacy department and clinical areas/wards/departments

  9. Pre-pack, assemble and label medicines

  10. Ensure medicines and supplies are stored in optimal conditions

  11. Update list of 10 most vital drugs

  12. Answer queries on the availability and supply of medicines

  13. Respond to face to face and telephone enquiries of a routine nature from members of the public, patients, their representatives and a wide range of staff groups

  14. Create and maintain patient profiles

  15. Promote an environment of physical, occupational, ethical and legal safety

  16. Observe safe work practices, rules and instructions relating to work, and be pro-active in hazard management

  17. Willingly co-operate in the achievement of all health and safety goals and initiatives

  18. Cleaning and sterilizing dispensing bottles and instruments

  19. Oversees the orders for drugs, solutions and equipment for the Centre. Ensures that accurate records of all drugs / medicine in stock are maintained. Records all receipts and disbursements.

  20. Directs the preparation and maintenance of clinical records of drugs, through the stock card system.

  21. Ensures that there is always an adequate supply of drugs at all times.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor / Diploma health related field.

  2. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician, particularly for hospital pharmacy assistants/technicians.

  3. At least 2 years work experience in clinical pharmaceutical management

  4. Knowledge of sterile product preparation

  5. Knowledge of drug regulations

  6. Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology

  7. Knowledge of generic and trade names of commonly prescribed medications

  8. Experience with administrative and clerical procedures and systems

  9. Familiar with relevant computer applications
