The Pharo Secondary School, Sheikh is a leading boarding school located in the Sahil Region, in the town of Sheikh between the port city of Berbera and Burcoa, Somaliland. The town of Sheikh has a pleasant cool climate all year round due to its high altitude. The school is renowned for its academic excellence and; secure and caring environment in which students of all abilities can experience success and achieve their full potential within a broad and balanced curriculum. The aim is to prepare students to become respectful contributing members of the communities in which they live. The school counts many prominent politicians and other key officials among its graduates.

The school has 268 students from Form 1 to Form 4 with academic facilities that consist of fully equipped classrooms, science laboratories, a library, assembly and lecture halls, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, a dining hall and a clinic. The school is currently following two curriculums, UK Pearson Edexcel International IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) curriculum and the Somaliland National Curriculum.

The Pharo Foundation Education Programme is committed to raising students’ achievement and implementing learning experiences that contribute to the future skills needed for higher education. The curriculum and pedagogy are being used to promote the development of students’ 21st century skills. This is achieved through the consistent use of rigorous learning outcomes and the alignment of supporting pedagogy and assessment.

Position Summary

We are searching for an enthusiastic Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Teacher to promote computer literacy among our students. In this position, the incumbent will be required to craft and present lessons, develop teaching material and attend parent-teacher conferences. The ICT Teacher should also ensure that equipment remains in excellent working condition.

To ensure success as an ICT Teacher, the incumbent should demonstrate flexibility and support as he/she helps students to develop confidence in their computer skills. An outstanding ICT Teacher will be cognizant of the socioeconomic factors that limit access to technology and will make a concerted effort to acclimatize students with no prior exposure to computers.

Role: ICT Teacher

Location: Sheikh, Somaliland

Reporting to: Head Teacher

Contract Type: Fixed Term (One Year)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare lesson plans, scheme of work, and instructional materials.

  • Assign, correct, grade, and give feedback on classwork, homework, and tests.

  • Track student progress by maintaining accurate, complete, and timely records of student grades.

  • Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and student needs.

  • Attend and participate in department, school, and district meetings

  • Maintain professionalism at all times.

  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom and common areas by enforcing school rules and procedures.

  • Support students in extra-curricular clubs and activities.

  • Assume responsibility for additional duties in the boarding school.

  • Assist in the school’s involvement in supporting the Sheikh community.

  • Assist in monitoring the student boarding section of the school.

  • Prepare and guide students in career development and post-secondary education

  • Additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the line manager.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related discipline.

  • At least 3-6 years of experience in teaching ICT in both Edexcel O-level and A-level syllabus.

  • Have experience in repairing and maintaining computers and computer networks.

  • Passion for the subject matter and teaching, with a commitment to student success.

  • Capable of developing and presenting an appropriate, creative, and adaptable curriculum. Excellent English fluency both verbal and written.

  • Must be willing to teach in Sheikh.

  • Familiarity with computers and other school technologies.

  • Passionate about fostering computer literacy and academic excellence.

  • Demonstrate the ability of strong communication skills in both Somali and English verbally and in writing.
