Animal Health Supervisor-Somalia Eyl
Action Contre la Faim (Action Against Hunger) has been conducting humanitarian programs in Somalia Since May 1992. Currently, AAH is conducting its humanitarian activities in Somalia focused on treating and preventing malnutrition, increasing access to clean water and appropriate sanitation, strengthening the food-security and the livelihoods and thus boosting the resilience of communities in Somalia as well as emergency response via program bases in Somalia.
Goal: The Animal Health Supervisor will organize training for Community Animal Health Workers (CAHW, kit and make follow-up on individuals trained. He/she will also provide support to Agro-vet/veterinary pharmacy owners in training and mentoring and contribute to regular updates of project activities and records. The position is based in Somalia -Eyl. The role reports hierarchically and technically to the FSL Field Officer.
The Animal Health Supervisor`s core responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
Objective 1 : Implement animal health activities:
Training of community animal health workers
Sensitize communities on animal health standards
Follow-up on the animal drug chain
Work closely with the existing government and private animal health structures
Asses veterinary drug supply systems including current situation and constraints
Compile reports on the animal health service providers in the area
Conduct monitoring of CAHWs treatment records
Carry out performance assessment on trained CAHWs
Objective 2 : Participate in the evaluation and reorientation of the project:
Participate in food security department meetings
Analyse and build on experiences in order to share the lessons learnt
Propose new directions for the project
Set up a community based monitoring system of the activity of community animal health workers and drug vendor
Objective 3 : Manage the project`s team
Recruit and sensitize community workers
Develop training topics
Train the team members;
Organize the work of the team to optimize the capacity of each team member.
Objective 4: Represent the Organization when dealing with partners:
Explain the project`s activities and objectives to the partners and the population;
Act as a link between the Organization and the beneficiaries.
Educational and professional background:
Diploma in Animal health with at least 2 years professional experience in the field of agriculture.
Required skills and competency:
Good facilitation, analytical, planning and report writing skills,
Good supervisory skills
Good interpersonal skills
Knowledge of techniques and animal health issues,
Good knowledge of implementing projects,
Self-motivated and reliable;
Works with minimal supervision;
Experience and knowledge of working with pastoralists in Somalia;
Understanding of the local language is a must Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook
