Position: Research Officer with a Focus on Conflict Analysis
Forcier Consulting is a dynamic research consultancy firm operating across Africa since 2011. Our core
services include monitoring and evaluation (M&E) research, capacity-building, training, and reporting
for UN Agencies, NGOs, governments, and private sector clients operating in post-conflict contexts
and challenging environments. Forcier currently has field offices in South Sudan, Sudan, Somalia,
Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Egypt. These offices are supported by a
remote technical unit in Washington, D.C., and our headquarters in Tampa, Florida, USA.
Job Description: The Research Officer is responsible for managing ongoing field studies throughout
the country and leading teams of local researchers in conflict, post-conflict and stabilisation research.
Research Officers are responsible for all phases of project implementation, which includes drafting
inception reports and research tools, training researchers, managing project finances, analyzing both
quantitative and qualitative data, and drafting final reports.

outside his/her comfort zone, and has the ability to multi-task effectively, manage multiple projects at
once, and can respectfully engage with clients and fellow staff members from different cultural
backgrounds. We are looking for someone who will go above and beyond to make sure deadlines are
met and deliverables are of the highest quality. You are also willing to lend a hand to your colleagues
and help others meet their deadlines when they are in a bind. An interest and experience in conflict
analysis is highly desirable.
This is a full-time position based in our Hargeisa, Somaliland office. The Research Officer reports to
the Research Manager.
Description of Main Duties:
ï‚· Conduct literature reviews, draft concept notes and inception reports, and gather relevant
background information as necessary;
ï‚· Draft quantitative and qualitative data collection tools for projects covering conflict, post-
conflict and stabilisation;
ï‚· Ensure that research tools, data collection, and reporting are sensitive to gender, culture, and
ï‚· Develop budgets and staffing plans, and monitor their effective execution;
ï‚· Collaborate with local researchers and manage teams in the field;
ï‚· Monitor, clean, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, and lead report writing;
ï‚· Provide support and training to other Forcier staff;
ï‚· Communicate with clients on project implementation and timelines, as necessary;
ï‚· Other tasks as agreed between the Research Officer and Research Manager.
ï‚· M.A. degree (or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international
development, or a related field with 2+ years of work experience, OR B.A. degree (or
equivalent) with 5+ years of work experience;
ï‚· At least 1 year of experience (professional or academic) conducting quantitative and/or
qualitative data analysis;
ï‚· Knowledge and interest in one or more of the following subject areas: conflict/peace life-cycle
analysis, DDR principles and implementation, conflict transformation and resolution, gender
analysis, state-building and governance and/or peacebuilding;
ï‚· Experience (professional or academic) conducting conflict and/or governance analysis highly
ï‚· Experience collecting quantitative and/or qualitative data will be considered an asset;
ï‚· Prior experience managing budgets and project timelines preferred;
ï‚· Project management experience will be considered an advantage;
ï‚· Basic working knowledge of Stata, SPSS, or R required;
ï‚· Experience collaborating with and managing diverse, multi-cultural teams preferred;
ï‚· Eagerness to learn and be pushed into new areas, and ability to learn from mistakes;
ï‚· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
ï‚· Ability to produce high-quality work under tight deadlines;
ï‚· Willingness to work long hours when needed;
ï‚· Creativity and an ability to think outside the box to conceptualize projects and implementation
ï‚· Prior experience living and working abroad, preferably in a developing country;
ï‚· Cultural sensitivity, sense of humor and a "˜can do` attitude;
ï‚· Fluency in written and spoken English.
